General Submission FAQs

How do I submit to NGC?

NGC Collector members may submit their coins directly to NGC. Join today!

As the official grading service of the American Numismatic Association (ANA), NGC allows ANA members to sign up for a free NGC submission membership. For more information, click here.

Many NGC Authorized Dealers also accept submissions from the public. For a list of NGC Authorized Dealers who accept submissions from the public, visit the NGC Dealer Locator.

How do I access the submission forms?

You must have an Associate or higher NGC Collector membership or be an NGC Authorized Dealer to submit directly to NGC.

To access submission forms:

  1. Sign in to NGCcoin.com at the upper right of the page (if you are not yet logged in).
  2. Click on the head symbol that appears in the upper right corner:
  3. Click on "My Submissions" in the menu that appears.
  4. Select the appropriate form under the Submission Forms header.

How much does NGC grading cost?

NGC's grading fees are generally based on a coin's fair market value and the submitter's desired turnaround time. For a comprehensive list of all NGC grading tiers, service tiers, fees and requirements, click here.

Why do I need to list my coin's value on the submission form? How do I know its value?

NGC uses the submitter's declared value to insure the coin while it is in its care. The coin's value also determines the NGC grading tier. Since NGC guarantees the authenticity and grade of coins that it certifies, it charges a higher fee for more valuable coins. For more information, read the Declared Value Policy.

NGC does not value or appraise coins, but it does provide several price guides on its website to help collectors find their coin's value.

Can I send multiple submissions to NGC in the same box?

Yes, you may send multiple submissions to NGC or NCS in the same box. You may not, however, send submissions to other CCG companies (such as PMG or CGC) in the same box as submissions to NGC or NCS.

What should I do if I have a WalkThrough or Express submission?

If you are submitting collectibles under the WalkThrough grading tier, mark each side of your shipping box with WK in large, bold letters. If you are submitting collectibles under the Express grading tier, mark each side of your shipping box with EX in large, bold letters. If you are submitting multiple grading tiers in the same shipping box, indicate the highest/fastest grading tier. Incorrectly marked packages will experience delays.

Can I drop my coins off at your office?

NGC accepts submissions from NGC Collector members through the mail or at shows only. NGC Collector members are not able to drop off coins at our office. NGC Authorized Dealers may drop off their coins at our office if they make an appointment. To schedule an appointment, contact NGC Customer Service at Service@NGCcoin.com or 1-800-NGC-COIN (642-2646).

What measures are in place at NGC to ensure the safety of my coins?

NGC headquarters is a secure 60,000-square-foot, purpose-built facility with two large vaults, a staff of armed guards and more than 150 security cameras. Submissions to NGC are opened under security cameras, and each coin is immediately assigned a unique identification number that is used to track it throughout every stage of NGC's grading process. All coins are fully insured while in NGC's possession and are handled only by trained staff.

These security features are replicated at NGC's international offices.

Can I check the status of my submission online?

Yes! NGC Collector and Authorized Dealer members may track the status of their submission online at NGCcoin.com.

To track your submission:

  1. Sign in to NGCcoin.com at the upper right of the page (if you are not yet logged in).
  2. Click on the head symbol that appears in the upper right corner:
  3. Click on "My Submissions" in the menu that appears.
  4. Click on "View Status" under the Submission Tracking header.
Or, to go directly to Submission Tracking, click here.

How are turnaround times calculated?

Turnaround times reflect the average length of time that we think it will take to complete a submission received today under a given grading tier or service. Turnaround times for individual submissions can vary based on a variety of factors including whether the submission form was completed properly, the submission was packaged correctly, the collectibles require additional research and other reasons.

We strive to provide the most up-to-date turnaround time estimates on our website. For current turnaround times, please visit NGCcoin.com/Services.

Who should be designated as the 'importer of record'?

If you are using international shipping to send a submission to our US headquarters, you must designate yourself as the “importer of record,” and you are responsible for all customs duties and fees for your submissions. If we incur any customs duties and fees for your submissions, these costs will be billed to you, plus an administrative fee of $25. To learn more, click here.

Can I cancel or change my order after my submission has been delivered to NGC?

Once your submission is in transit to NGC, your order cannot be cancelled or changed. NGC has already started working on your submission to perform your requested services. No refunds can be given after a submission has been delivered.

Please note that turnaround times are only estimates and are not guaranteed. For current services and fees as well as turnaround times, click here.

Can I check the grade of my submission before I get it back?

The NGC website offers a free Submission Tracking resource that enables you to check the status of your submission as it makes its way through the certification process. The Submission Tracking tool is the quickest and easiest way to see that your submission has been received, whether it has been graded and when it is on its way back to you. Grades are available to view online when a submission's status is "Shipped."

Customer Service representatives do not provide the grades of submissions over the phone or via email.

To access Submission Tracking, simply log in to your account by clicking "Sign In" at the upper right of the NGC website and then clicking on "My Submissions" under your profile symbol.
