NGC Special Labels and Designations for the 2021 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set

Posted on 9/28/2021

NGC is offering several special labels for coins in this year's special six-coin set. Special submission instructions must be followed. The set must be submitted in the sealed original Mint shipping box to receive the set designation. See the "Submission instructions" section of this article, including instructions to have the original Mint packaging returned.

The US Mint is releasing the 2021 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set on October 1, 2021, with a product limit of only 50,000. Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) is celebrating the coins’ release by encapsulating them with attractive labels that pay tribute to where they were struck, as well as a special designation of Limited Edition Set. NGC is also offering the celebratory NGC Eagle 35th Anniversary Label as well as the popular NGC Early Releases and First Releases Labels.

The six-coin set features the following .999 fine silver coins:

  • a 2021-W Silver Eagle with the original Silver Eagle design, which will have an attribution of Heraldic Eagle T-1
  • a 2021-S Silver Eagle with the new Silver Eagle design, which will have an attribution of Eagle Landing T-2
  • a 2021-S Proof Silver Kennedy Half Dollar
  • a 2021-S Proof Silver Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site Quarter, which is the last in the America the Beautiful Quarters Program
  • a 2021-S Proof Silver Washington Crossing the Delaware Quarter
  • a 2021-S Proof Silver Roosevelt Dime

The obverses of both Silver Eagle coins feature Adolph A. Weinman’s iconic Walking Liberty figure, which has been retooled to resemble the original cast design and includes the addition of Weinman's artist mark above Liberty's heel.

The original reverse of the Silver Eagle depicts a heraldic eagle, grasping an olive branch in its right talon and arrows in its left — an image designed and engraved by John Mercanti that has graced the coin since the first American Silver Eagles were issued in 1986. Struck at the West Point Mint, the reverse of this issue displays the "W" mintmark.

The new reverse features an eagle with wings spread preparing to land while carrying an oak branch. This issue is minted at the San Francisco Mint, as signified by the "S" mintmark on the coin. It was engraved by Michael Gaudioso, who, like John Mercanti, signs certification labels exclusively for NGC. Signed labels from each artist are available through select retailers.

NGC is the industry leader in the certification of American Eagle coins, with more than 14 million graded since 1987 — far exceeding any other third-party grading service. To learn more about NGC’s certification options for all of the 2021 American Eagles, click here.

Sets received by NGC within the first 30 days of release are eligible for NGC’s popular Early Releases and First Releases designations, along with the Limited Edition Set designation.
