NGC Special Labels and Designations for the 2021-W Burnished Gold Eagles
Posted on 10/4/2021
The excitement surrounding the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle program continues with the release of the 2021-W Uncirculated Gold Eagle by the US Mint on October 7, 2021. Commonly referred to as the Burnished Gold Eagle, this issue has a limited mintage of only 9,100 coins.
Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) is certifying these 2021-W Burnished Gold Eagles with a special attribution — Eagle Portrait T-2 — and offering a variety of special labels, including the NGC Eagle 35th Anniversary Special Label for no additional fee, the ever-popular NGC Early Releases and First Releases labels and more.

Burnished American Gold Eagles were first minted in 2006 as collector versions of the US Mint’s Bullion Gold Eagles. These burnished coins depict the same design as the bullion coins — Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Liberty on the obverse and an eagle on the reverse.
Through the use of modern technology, the coin now features an obverse that more closely resembles Saint-Gaudens’ original depiction of Liberty. For example, the Capitol Building, the shape of the rays, the stars, the olive branch and the torch have all been restored based on the original cast.
On the reverse, the depiction of the national bird has changed from an image of two American bald eagles tending their nest to a finely detailed eagle’s head, which was designed by Jennie Norris, who signs certification labels exclusively for NGC. The NGC Jennie Norris Signature Label is available from select retailers. Another updated feature is a distinct variation to the coin’s reeded edge as an additional anti-counterfeiting measure.
NGC is the industry leader in the certification of American Eagle coins, with more than 14 million graded since 1987. With the release of the new American Eagles, NGC is proud to feature even more ways to enhance these iconic coins.
