The new Silver Eagle struck at the San Francisco Mint is being released on August 12th. Special submission instructions must be followed. See the “Submission Instructions” section of this article.

In a continuing celebration of the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle program, the 2021-S Proof Silver Eagle is being released by the US Mint on August 12, 2021. The coin features an refreshed obverse, the new Silver Eagle reverse design and additional security features. Silver Eagles struck at the San Francisco Mint are always popular among collectors, and these have a limited mintage of only 200,000 coins.

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) is certifying 2021-S Proof Silver Eagles with a special attribution — Eagle Landing T-2 — and offering a variety of special labels, including the NGC Eagle 35th Anniversary Special Label, the ever-popular NGC Early Releases and First Releases labels and more.

The 2021-S Proof Silver Eagle obverse remains Adolf A. Weinman’s iconic Walking Liberty figure, but with the use of modern technology, she more closely resembles Weinman’s original design. His artist mark above her heel is a notable addition.

The reverse displays a new design, depicting a bald eagle preparing to land with an oak branch in its talons. It was engraved by artist Michael Gaudioso, who signs certification labels exclusively for NGC. The NGC Michael Gaudioso Signature Label is available for the 2021-S Proof Silver Eagles through select retailers.

Since 1987, NGC has certified more than 11 million Silver Eagles — far exceeding any other coin grading service. With the release of the new 2021 Silver Eagles, NGC looks forward to introducing even more ways to enhance these popular coins.
