NGC-certified rarities struck in pewter, silver and gold brought six figures in the June auction.

Two 18th-century rarities certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) were among the top lots in Heritage Auctions' Long Beach Expo US Coins Signature Auction #1331.

A 1776 Pewter EG FECIT Continental Dollar graded NGC MS 67 (lot 3005) realized $456,000. As the finest-known Continental Dollar across all die varieties and compositions, this coin was once a highlight of several important numismatic collections, including those of Virgil Brand and John J. Ford. For more than 200 years, the enigmatic 1776 Continental Dollars have fascinated numismatists and continue to do so.
