Posted on 5/28/2021
Two 18th-century rarities certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) are among the coins being offered in the Long Beach Expo US Coins Signature Auction #1331, presented by Heritage Auctions. Online bidding is currently underway, with the sale concluding June 16-20, 2021.
A 1776 EG FECIT Continental Dollar struck in pewter and graded NGC MS 67 (lot 3005) is one of the most anticipated coins in the sale. The Continental Dollars were struck in various compositions such as pewter, brass and silver, with a design showing a sundial on the obverse and 13 linked circles representing the colonies on the reverse. This particular example is from a variety known as Newman 3-D, which includes the letters EG FECIT above the 1776 date.
Another highlight in the sale is a stunning 1792 Half Disme graded NGC MS 63 (lot 3061). Half dismes are generally considered to be the first United States coins struck under authority of the Coinage Act of 1792. Their historic significance makes them a highlight of any sale, regardless of their grade. This example is one of the higher-graded.
Other NGC-graded highlights in the sale include:
