NGC Registry Featured Set: Modern Morgan and Peace Dollars

Posted on 7/14/2026

Revived in 2021, the modern incarnations of the classic silver coins have covered new ground, with even more innovations this summer.

Two of the most beloved series for US coin collectors are Morgan Dollars (1878-1921) and Peace Dollars (1921-1935). These large coins combine beautiful designs, cartwheel luster, and numismatic history, with plenty of date-and-mintmark combinations that run the gamut of price, appealing to beginning and advanced collectors alike.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the conclusion of the Morgan series and the beginning of the Peace one, the US Mint began offering modern versions of these coins in 2021. The US Mint just released (on July 9) the first Morgan and Peace Dollars of 2026 (check out NGC's designation and label options here). These two coins are each struck in the Reverse Proof format with a Liberty Bell privy celebrating 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This is the first Peace Dollar with a privy; the only two Morgans to ever carry a privy were the ‘CC’ and ‘O’ privies of 2021 celebrating branch mints no longer in operation. On August 25 (coinciding with the opening day of the World’s Fair of Money), the US Mint will release the first-ever Morgan and Peace Dollars in an Enhanced Uncirculated format.

In just five years, the Morgan and Peace Dollars, Modern Issues, 2021-Date, Complete category in the NGC Registry has surpassed 2,000 competitors, one of only 13 categories to pass that number.

Coin Maestro’s 2021-2025 USA Morgan And Peace $1 Complete is one of 121 sets to be 100% complete with all 24 coins in the top grade. Like 42 other sets, Coin Maestro’s set has the maximum number of images and comments. It has earned Top Ranked honors for the past two years.

Collecting the most Registry points in this set is the 2021-D Morgan, driven by the relative rarity of the top grade, which was earned by less than two-thirds of the more than 37,000 examples in the NGC Census.

Interestingly, every coin in Coin Maestro’s set is encapsulated with an NGC Signature Label. These include Former Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee Chairman Thomas Uram (12 coins from 2021 and 2023); Red Book Editor Emeritus Kenneth Bressett (six coins from 2024); Former Mint Director David Ryder (four coins from 2025); and US Mint Director of Design and Engraving Ron Harrigal (two coins from 2025).

Thank you, Coin Maestro (and all the other competitors), for building and sharing your modern Morgan and Peace set in the NGC Registry.

If you’re curious which other NGC Registry categories have at least 2,000 competitors, they all involve US coins:

Would you like your set to be featured in a future article? 100% completion in a set is not always feasible. Perhaps we will choose someone whose set has a personal story behind it or some interesting historical facts. We are looking for those sets where someone has taken the time to make the set unique and a reflection of his/her personal collecting style. It may be your set! Stay tuned.
