This is interesting and collectable set with many varieties including the 1868 and 1872 blundered dies, and the 1877 type 1 reverse. Many of the varieties have been described in articles published in the Gobrecht Journal and earlier in publications by Kamal Ahwash, Walter Breen and Brian Greer.
1858 is the rarest year followed by 1861 and 1862. In PR65 and better condition, 1862 is the rarest year due to the use of poorly prepared planchets.
This set is comparable with the 1858-1891 portion of Phil Kaufman's NGC certified set, now dispersed. Phil's set would have scored 114,896 using May 2004 grading scores.
