sk*m/ed*l Washington circa 1965-1998 P&D/S Clad/Silver all NGC MS 25C's
The journey for a complete MS 67/68 short set of the clad Washington quarter series is coming to fruition. One 1989-D MS 66+ to go and the chances are good to find 1 of the 70 MS 67's. My partner in life, Sheila Moore, fell short of seeing that day of final accomplishment, but her spirit remains to see it through. God Bless her. To the good life of 5/9/46 to 10/20/23, and the after-life everlasting...
Meanwhile, continuous plugging to improve is the game. There is some hot competition arising in the ranks and there's steady new grading in the pipeline from hidden experts with open coffers.deservng to cash in. For the later clad Washington quarters to maintain market vibrancy more new and old collectors are needed to partake for most in the NGC Registries have been in a lull for quite a while without movement nor participation. The want is missing, cold is what I feel and sense from the majority. The hot minority will get hotter in picking up the slack and be rewarded heavenly.
There has been some turnover of elite Set owners of recent years and it is strange to me that here I sit #1 ranked all of a sudden in 1st class seating. Fifteen years ago the trip began not knowing the destination of how to get to the promised land. Fortunately, I had help along the way as good guidance and I will name those that were integral herein as my way of saying "thank you" and to give them the recognition they deserve.
For each year date I have provided write ups on the coin purchased, its ranking and others to the top including pops, Registry points and the "Good, Bad & Ugly" of the Price Guide values, personal data of sales, listings, etc., from my book of notes. At the end of each coin write up I close with comments our corresponding Mint Set Registry applicable. Over 95% of all Mint Sets from 1965 to date we are ranked #1 and have been for many years. The Mint Sets are the main reason of our collecting coins - one each of every coin denomination minted in the best quality of condition available. So let's hit the clad Washington quarters starting from 1965 and ending in 1998.

I thought it important to name the SELLERS from whom the coins came from whether they graded the coins or not. As strictly a buyer of coins without the know-how of grading, you rely upon the integrity and trust of a seller in handling the sale appropriately and the delivery of the bonafide coin. Building repour can be beneficial and advantageous in more ways than one. A few SELLERS are listed multiple times and played major roles in the compiliation of this #1 rank Set. Here is a few comments on them:
1) MARK DILAURO of "datentype" on eBay has been the dominant player in new grading of clad Washington quarters and other denominations in the past 20 years. He was a phenomenal grader at NGC and PCGS before exiting to the private sector on eBay where he thrived in putting on the shows of shows every Sunday evening listing top grades over two plus hours every 3 minutes apart. It was the best place one could learn about coins and collecting that no book could or would tell. Not only is he responsible directly, but indirectly as many of his coins were purchased by others who later sold them. TERRY HAMMES on eBay and others who consigned coins at GREATCOLLECTIONS like RHF's Centurion Collection and "erwindocs" of the Cherry Tree Collection are just a few names. Mark is truly the "King of Coins" as I call him. "You 'da the man" Mark.
2) TERRY HAMMES bought many spare coins that sold low in his term of building a former #1 rank NGC Best in Category clad Washington Registry. He chased DrC'S #1 ranked NGC Best and Best in Category for years. DrC eventually sold his Registry Set to "erwindocs." Upon accomplishing his goals of first a #1 rank NGC Best in Category Award by catching up and just surpassing "erwindocs" in points and second having a record Set with all MS 67/68 grades with no MS 66, he sold his set on HERITAGE as he and his wife had enough of coins and the financial sacrifices made from ordinary life. Terry and I spoke weekly on the phone and exchanged many messages about coins and his life in Texas and mine in California. It made our shared coin hobbies eventful and fun which lead to exchanges of key coin sales between us.
3) GREATCOLLECTIONS, a national on line auction house in Irvine, California is a listed SELLER time after time and I can't say enough about the tremendous job Ian Russell, President, and his staff have done bring that firm from infancy to stardom as one of the top three in the U.S. and beyond. In our beginning years of collecting 17 years ago eBay was the dominant platform with the highest in coin revenue and I still believe this although unable for verification because of their privacy concerns. I am not sure if GREATCLLECTION has a sales volume close to higher than HERITAGE yet, but they are on an upswing arc. That is unimportant to me. The type of listings in the modern coinage niche is. I have no time or money to watch other than the ample listings on eBay and GREATCOLLECTIONS (GC). GC has matured by creating a large following of buyers and the consigning sellers have followed their trail to meet the demand. There is more to GC than the quality of coins in consignment like time to pay and other matters to long to list here. A call to Ian or staff get answered or promptly returned cordially.
I could go on, but it is a rap for this year. More next year? With the passing of my beloved wife, Sheila Moore, last October there is uncertainty as to how long coin collecting will go on, Definitely a year to wrap up finishing final touches to improve our Sets as a dedication of sorts to Sheila's name. I enjoy coins and would continue indefinitely, however, I know that there is so more to life than materialistic endeavors. All would depend on a buyer's interest on a whole Set or part and a fair offer. Any one want to buy a #1 rank Set?
