NGC Expert Comments:
It’s rare that simply clicking through a set leaves one stunned, but that’s exactly what happens here. Simpson, a name known across the hobby, has compiled a complete run of Indian Head proof $5 gold pieces—a rare and challenge U.S. gold series to collect in such condition. Each coin is a showstopper, with grades ranging from PF66 to PF68 and featuring stars and plus grades that push the absolute limits of preservation. The two satin finish coins of 1909 and 1910 (graded PF67★ and PF68+, respectively) are particularly jaw-dropping. This set is proof—literally and figuratively—of why Simpson remains one of the most respected names in the Registry.
