NGC Expert Comments:
The silver rupees of British India are current among the most actively studied and collected coins throughout the world, and D. Bansal has emerged as a standout collector in this space. His set includes coins from the reigns of Victoria through George VI, and it follows the meticulous attribution model laid out by Stevens and Weir. Completing a high-grade rupee set is no easy task. Because of environment and handling, fully Mint State examples can be elusive in the extreme. Yet Bansal’s set, at just 62% complete, already leads the Registry by 20,000 points. It is at once a working catalog and a labor of passion, and it offers a window into one of today’s most dynamic numismatic frontiers.
