NGC Expert Comments:
As his Registry name suggests, collector Franz Joseph has immersed himself in the coinage of Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, and this stunning set of florins is the fruit of that specialization. These half-crown sized silver coins represent the final design type of the denomination prior to Austria-Hungary’s coinage reform, and they are not easy to find well-preserved. Yet this set is not only 100% complete, it is brimming with carefully selected gems, including a final-year 1892 graded MS66 that any collector would envy. The overall impression is one of elegance—original surfaces with light patina and consistently high quality throughout. The depth of knowledge and curatorial care here makes this a standout in the Registry, and fellow enthusiasts of European coinage would do well to examine this collection closely.
