A Type Set of Silver Commemoratives that is unmatched in both quality and eye appeal. Many of the coins you are about to view are pedigreed to Helen Carmody, Anthony Swiatek, JFS, Jewell, Bruce Scher, David Schweitz, Larry Shepherd and other well recognized individuals in the commemorative field of collecting. This type set has been 25 plus years in the making and includes: Isabella PR-66, Columbian in PR-66CAM, Hawaiian in PR-64, New Rochelle PR-68 and Norse Gold Matt PR-67. On Monday Nov. 7, 2005 numismatic history was made. The Las Vegas collection, assembled by David Schweitz was purchased through the King of Commems, Mr. Larry Shepherd of SIMCO. J & L, Bill Johnson of Pahrump Coins, NV and Larry Shepherd then using only the best coins from each of these WORLD CLASS COLLECTIONS created the most technically perfect, highest graded with spectacular eye appeal set of the 50 Commem Type Set ever assembled. A majority of the coins in this collection have been graced with magnificent color as though touched by the hand of God Himself! Please take a moment of your time and share with us the beauty of these coins. In May of 2006 the President of American Numismatic Rarities (Christine Karstedt) and her Chief Photographer (Doug Plasencia)* flew to Las Vegas to photograph the J&L Collection. The photographs will be used as plates in a new publication on Commems being published by Q. David Bowers and Larry Shepherd. Enjoy------* Thank you to Doug Plasencia, chief photographer at ANR for doing most of the photography for this collection. ** Of special interest- In its 20-year history, NGC has awarded a grade of MS69 or MS69* to exactly five classic commemorative coins. One is an Isabella quarter, now in a PCGS MS68 holder and no longer available as an NGC-certified coin. The records show one special 1938-D Boone graded MS69 . A single 1937-D Oregon commemorative has achieved MS69 as well. Surprisingly, the other two pieces belong to the same issue: not the Norfolk, a logical guess, but the Antietam. PCGS has graded just 3 classic commemoratives in the grade of MS-69- 38-D Oregon, 37-D Oregon and 38-D Boome. In our three commemorative registry sets, NGC Long, NGC Short and PCGS Short, J&L is proud to house an example of each of these coins with the exception of 38-D Oregon in NGC 68 STAR. Read more...
United States commemorative coins have long been prized for their variety and beauty, and this type set includes some of the most beautiful pieces in existence. Each would be the showpiece of most collections, but here they are gathered in one. Standout rarities include an Isabella Quarter grading MS-69, a 1938-D Boone in MS-69* and an 1892 Columbian certified as PF-66 Cameo! Many of these coins are pedigreed to some of the most prominent names in commemorative collecting.
