First of all let me state that this set has almost become an obsession with me and my grandaughter. This a work of love (and hate) that has lasted for the last four years and in total for more than 12.
It started when I purchased my brothers war nickel set in 2002 for a total of $300. . At that time I did not realize what I was getting myself into. Oh, sure I had bought a few MS67 nickels before that time on my own but not because I was collecting them but because they were inexpensive compared to the classic washington set I was building in MS67 and it would satisfy my coin addiction at a relatively low cost (back then).
In 2010 when I started to collect again in earnest, I decided that fullsteps on the Jeffersons were the way to go. This has turned into a daunting endeavor to say the least. In the past 4 years fullstep coins have gone through the roof to the extent that I find myself outgunned on almost every bid I make on a registry quality fullstep nickel.
Set Goal - To have a Registry quality Fullstep Nickel in every slot with an explanation as to why we decided to include it in our set along with good photos showing details of the coin and the step area. I have also decided to exclude mint errors from this set. My personal belief is they belong in a set unto themselves and should be excluded from the main set. I have excluded all varieties from this set and have set up a custom set for varieties. This is for all varieties except the 1943/2 since NGC has made a special slot for it..
My Definitions -
Fullstep = unbroken line plainly visible under 5X magnification on the reverse.
5 Fullsteps (5FS) = 4 unbroken lines can be see
6 Fullsteps (6FS) = 5 unbroken can be seen
Registry Quality = A coin which has superior luster, strike, etc. in a high grade for that particular series and further for specific year/mm combinations within that series.
