On the reverse of the Jefferson Nickel is an image of Monticello which Jefferson built and in which he lived. Construction of that mansion started in 1768 and was not fully completed until 1809. Therefore the sesquicentennial of the completion of Monticello is 1959. As most coin collectors know the front steps on the reverse of the Jefferson nickel differentiates these coins by the strike of those steps.
