The certified portion of my collection, as I’m writing this, is comprised of about two uncirculated coins for every one that is circulated. Yet, that circulated one-third ties up two-thirds of the numismatic value of my collection.
Unlike the torment of your middle school’s story problems, I’ll break that down for you: If the average value of one of my uncirculated coins is $50, then the average value of one of my circulated coins would be $200 (you’re welcome). So, by a long shot, most of the investment aspect of my certified collection is within the coins of this set.
Reason being, I’m quite drawn to scarcities for a poor man. Many of the coins here are type keys, semi-keys, or sought for their mint marks. Since I don’t have enough disposable income (nor patience) to round up mint-state or gem examples of some of my preferences: I’ve inadvertently become a bit of a lowball collector.
Moreover, I’m not a fan of gold. I do have a few grams, but the market is a bubble with a very thin exterior, and the appearance is boring. Silver reminds me of classic movies, and it turns neat colors. Outside of my main, “The Change I Wanted to See,” type set, this one is most suitable for my collection.
