As I’m writing this, I’ve yet to see New Orleans. But I have met two representatives from that great city.
First was a 15-year-old who had been sent to the same troubled-youth home that I was, in the early aughts. His name was Matt, and I considered him a friend. He wrecked his pickup in about 2015, and died instantly in his late 20’s. I think about him often.
And, the other was a dog that bit like a crocodile when I played with him. He’d been displaced by Katrina, and my friend Mike, here in Cincinnati, had adopted him.
But, still, I just haven’t been down there myself. My lady and I are more fascinated with outdoor adventures than cultural destinations, so most of our vacations are centered around finding neat rocks and wildlife sightings.
But I am happy to have that O, even if it’s on just a few of my coins. That Seated half dime in the set photo has a couple collectibility issues (especially on the obverse), but I enjoy it as part of my 2x2 flip albums. The other two are featured here. The half dollar completed the entirety of my Seated denomination set on the registry when I bought it, and I had the dollar certified after finding it at a flea market. I enjoy my few coins from the Big Easy, and hope you will as well.
