In July 1969 we sat in our living rooms and basements as we watched a man walk on the moon. The landscape of the moon showed only black & white, but that was o.k. because we were watching on our black & white T.V. sets.
The year 1969 was also the year of the Woodstock Festival, increasing political turmoil in this country and sad visions of the Vietnam War being beamed into our living rooms every evening on the evening news. Walter Cronkite was America's favorite evening news anchorman in 1969. Cronkite came off more as a trusted uncle than a news reporter.
Despite the changing times, a lot of us baby boomers recall the year 1969 with pleasant memories. Many of us were young and far removed from the unpleasantness of life in the real world. We recall with fondness things like school sock hops, summer days at the pool and riding our bicycles and playing until dark. And many of us car guys remember some of the cool cars that cruised around town in those days; big block Chevelles, GTOs, 440 Cudas, and Cobra Jet Ford's. Ah, nostalgia.
