I have been working on this set since December 2001. It all started with buying a 1859-s.
UPDATE: Its now been over 12 YEARS that I have been trying to complete this set. Needless to say if my bank account was stuffed full of cash or my eye was a little less discerning I would have finished this set back in 2005 or so.
As time marches along this series in the grades I'm collecting have gone up in price 200-300%. In all honesty, back in 2001 almost ALL coins were grossly undervalued as were precious metals. From 2002 to 2007 were great years to be a coin collector. Gold and silver were still low and nice coins for the grade seemed to be not too hard to find. Then in 2008 many consider this time to be the end of the 1st bull run from 2001 to the summer of 2008. Then the wall street carnage led to a major global recession, that in my opinion, that we aren't out of yet as of January 2014. Well guess what happened to coin values and precious metals? Lower? Nope. That's right they have significantly increased and then precious metals have pulled back the last year or two. Generally coin values have held very strong from 2010 to today.
All that being said, this set is coming very close to completion for me. Looking at my set, there are 21 coins I will be looking to add to this set. The common dates and the coins from 1879-1891 don't interest me that much. But I will purchase one if the coin is just too nice to pass up. Like this year, I just added a 1854-O. This is one of the most common dates of all of them. With great toning and mark free surfaces its just a coin I couldn't pass on.

1a. 1846-O tall date I have an ANACS 45... PCGS graded it a 40
1.1847-O passed on many lackluster examples. Along with being poorly struck. ADDED 11/15
2. 1850
3.1850-O had one then traded it.

6. 1852-O
6b 1853-O no arrows (when pigs fly)
7. 1855-s ADDED 2/17
22. 1857-s have one in ANACS 45 that looks 50+
8.1862-s ADDED 6/15

14. 1870-cc
15. 1871-cc
16. 1872-cc
