My 1915 Mint Set

48 states in the Union, two years from our participation in WWI, Poncho Villa's Northern Division was defeated in 1915 at the Battle of Celaya; leaving it without support. The end result was Villa was raiding American territory to sustain his troops. That resulted in the American government taking sturn action, which in 1916 resulted in Pershing leading military actions into Mexico. Poncho is all gone, but his house is a tourist destination in Chihuahua City, Mexico.
Perhaps of a more personal note, that was my Dad's year of birth, I guess it was quite a year and should be memorialized in a set.
Milton Friedman and Anna Schwartz penned "The Monetary History of the United States, 1867-1960." Princeton University Press, 1963 which describes much of the economic era in which this set is squarely centered. The set represents a transitioning of our coinage with us still using the Barber design for quarters and halfs, but have brought up new designs for the penny and nickel that be long lived, and unique changes to our gold coins. Remember, this is only the second year after the Federal Reserve Act was passed we would also have a new authority on our money supply. Exciting times, and an exciting year for a set.
