Nov. 8, 1960 - Nov. 20, 2012 Todd Richard Peters, age 52, of Sabula, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at the Rochester Methodist Hospital, Mayo Campus, Rochester, Minnesota, after a courageous six-year battle with cancer. Todd was born sooner than expected on November 8, 1960, in Madison, Wisconsin, the son of Richard and Wanda (Carpenter) Peters. From the beginning, as a medical miracle, Todd overcame the odds. As a boy Todd loved meeting new people and helping others in need. This thread ran throughout his life. He would visit his grandparents in Clinton every summer, learning to “work” with his grandfather at Carpenter’s Gas Station. At the age of sixteen, their family grew to four as Todd welcomed his sister, Nicole. He graduated from St. Paul High School, Norwalk, Ohio, with the class of 1979. On November 4, 1995, Todd married Tammy Key. Over the years, Todd joined the family business that his parents had built in manufacturing, working for R & D Equipment, Inc. and ACT, Inc, both located in Norwalk, Ohio, and also their partner company in England. Todd’s personable way served him well, working in customer service, sales, and logistics. In 2006, he moved to Sabula to live near his parents in their retirement. Todd began working as a safety technician for Jacobs Engineering. A short time later he began his battle with cancer. Throughout his illness, Todd remained strong, upbeat and independent. He even found the energy and time to help a friend build a successful business. He cherished his close friends and family. Todd was a skilled pool player, avid coin collector and had a natural way with animals. He loved classic rock music. Todd will be dearly missed by his parents, Richard and Wanda Peters of Sabula; his sister, Nicole Peters of Sandusky, Ohio; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Harry and Lucinda Carpenter; his paternal grandfather, Howard Peters; and his paternal grandmother, Hazel (Scott) Mellen. Death date: Nov. 20, 2012. I just found about this tragic news today 11-24-12. I known about his struggles were for a long time now. I remembered when he first contacted me about starting his dime collection. I told him everything to look for before sending a coin in. He wanted to have a set worth wild, and he didn't know how far he will get in his collection because of the finances and Chemo .A few times I would talk about coins for hours on the phone. I gave him my best advice and told him what grade to stay with. I sold him a lot of dimes that I upgraded . He was a great friend that I never met. I have had the rare opportunity to meet great collectors in here for the first time, like Lonnie Helton and Jason Colingner Even though I have only met them once, they will be remembered by me forever. To all who collectors in here, never pass the opportunity to meet someone who is a fellow collector. you may never get that chance again. I know I wont ever get to see Todd .. I am now able to put a face with the voice,but I never got to meet him. I knew from the phone.. When he called, I knew his voice right off the bat. Rest in Peace my good friend !!!!. Words can never express the sorrow I am feeling knowing you are gone forever ! You have pushed yourself to #3 in the Roosevelt Dime registry which is a major accomplishment. I know you wanted to have a great roosevelt set, and you did ! As a memory to your birth year, I will push you to #1 in this 1960 Mint Set for your birth year, in 2013 and keep your name alive. I only need 22 more coins to have a 100% complete set. Not that that means a whole lot, but it is an accomplishment in my book! 3/17/12 FINALLY!!! Made it to 3rd place! Not by much, but for a while I will be in 3rd place. I need a few more to have a complete set. The 82 No P will be the most difficult to obtain. I had an opportunity once, but the funding was not available at that time. And then there are the 70's / 80's will be the next most difficult to obtain. I may have a lead on a couple of them but that can change in a heartbeat. 6/21/12 Finally picked up a 1982 No P!! 66FT none the less! 1 major coin down. A few more to go. The few that are left will probably not be FT coins. They just aren't availble in FT. I can always upgrade in the future when I find one. 8/7/12 Added my first Silver MS68FT coin today!
