The United States Mint called these Dollar coins the Presidential $1 Coin Program.
Presidential dollar coins, enacted December 22, 2005: are a series of United States dollar coins with engravings of relief portraits of U.S. presidents on the obverse and the Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World) on the reverse along with the inscription "$1" and the inscription "United States of America" in all caps.
The edge inscriptions (the U.S. mottos, "In God We Trust" and "E pluribus unum", the coin's mint mark, and its year of issuance.
From 2007 to 2011, Presidential dollar coins were minted for circulation in large numbers, resulting in a large stockpile of unused $1 coins. From 2012 to 2016, new coins in the series were minted only for collectors. A new coin was released on December 4, 2020, to honor George H. W. Bush, who died after the original program ended.
This set is dedicated to my father, whom inspired me to collect coins. I love you dad and miss you....I wish you could see this beautiful Presidential Set.
Interesting fact: President James Garfield and I share the same birthday Nov. 19th, but different years of course. He is just a little bit older.
This set in my opinion is AMAZING. From George W. to George H.W. it displays our leaders over the past 235 years minus our current living Commander in Chiefs.
I was very fascinated by these coins when they first came out in 2007. I at first started collecting presidential dollars by going to my bank to find the right coin just to place in my fancy brown Dancso coin album.
As time passed I got behind and found myself years behind in my book. I recently started up again collecting them to fulfill the goal I had set out to achieve in 2007. Only this goal would take years as I would have to wait while just FOUR come out as each year passed by.
What was that goal? I am big into the history of presidents and wanted to fill those blank spots in my coin book. To have a complete set was and is my goal.
As I started looking for those missing treasures to my set, I ending up finding a particular coin that would stick out much like a silver dime would stick out with modern dimes if placed with them.
The S minted ones were my heart of the ocean, the Proof S looked amazing and from that moment on, I knew I would aim to collect them.
I stumbled upon a website and thought favorable of their type of coins that were protected and not exposed to air. I liked the NGC capsules and referred to the ngccoin.com to build my collection.
At first a majority of these coins were easy to buy at the PF69 grade. After owning a few PF69 coins I decided to go for PF70 as they are the best of the best and that is where I am now as I am trying to complete my set.
The reverse coins are quite the sight to glance at but also more expensive. My Reagan, Kennedy, Johnson, Bush and Truman reverse coins stand out among the rest as they have that reflection that shines compared to non-reverse coins.
Searching/exploring for reverse coins is very frustrating as there aren't that many available. I would have liked the Reverse coins to have been for all the presidents instead of just a few.
I am just one coin away from 100% and that is the Eisenhower Reverse who keeps me from completing my set.
Enjoy my set.
I am sure you want to know the answer to my question.
Who is my favorite president?
My favorite president is "Old Tippecanoe" William Henry Harrison.
