The colonial period was a remarkable time in our country's lineage for coins. The melting pot (no pun intended) of cultures and their wide array of respective currency were readily accepted for goods and services, but lack of a standard currency often frustrated merchants and patrons alike.
It wasn't until approximately 10 years after the United States declared its independence when actions, and later laws, were set forth to mint standardized US-centric currency. These coins represent the foundation of the currency we have today, and the very reason why I began collecting coins.
This set features issues from the historically rich U.S. colonial era.
