Goals: Fill all 46 spots (37 filled = 80.4% complete), ≤$200 per coin spending limit, all coins graded by NGC, MS65 or higher*, classic brown label, high quality photos of both sides of every coin, and descriptions about each coin and the corresponding mintage.
*1957-D/D FS-501 is an MS64 graded Franklin variety that I bought because it's one of the three highest graded non-FBL varieties for this mintage and it's labelled as a "top pop" specimen--meaning there aren't any non-FBL coins from this mintage and variety that are graded higher than MS64. This is the sole exception to my goal of having all Franklins graded MS65 or higher.*
Haven't seen many varieties graded MS65 or higher by NGC besides the 1955 "Bugs Bunny" variety. The majority of Franklin varieties I've seen in other members sets are PCGS graded coins, which I'd rather avoid so to keep everything uniform in my collection. I hope NGC has graded just as many of the varieties and I hope I can find at least a few graded MS65 or higher, but it's not easy.
As of May 30th, 2024 this set is only missing 14 issues of the 46 spots that comprise this set: 4 basics (1949-D, 1950, 1950-D, and 1952-D) and 10 varieties.
As of November 2nd, 2024 this set has all of the basic, business strike Franklins and how I'm only missing nine varieties. No idea if and when I'll ever come across the nine Franklin varieties that this set is missing. I've seen a couple for sale and they were $450+. To find an MS65 (or higher) graded Franklin variety that's for sale for a price within my budget seems like it may take a quite a while to find and purchase these ten coins, especially if I only shop for NGC graded Franklins.
Thanks for visiting!
