NGC STAR AND PL KENNEDY HALFS.
I AM A HUGE FAN OF NGC STAR COINS AND AM INTRIGUED BY PROOF-LIKE ( PL ) BUSINESS STRIKE KENNEDY HALF DOLLARS FROM 1964 TO 1970 . I HAVE FOUND THAT EARLY ( PRE 1970 ) BUSINESS STRIKE KENNEDY HALF DOLLARS AWARDED A STAR OR THE PL DESIGNATION ARE EXTREMELY ELUSIVE, AS ARE THE HANDFUL OF DEEP MIRROR PROOF-LIKE ( DPL ) COINS FROM THE YEAR 1970.
PL KENNEDY BUSINESS STRIKES
NGC SHOWS A VERY LOW POPULATION OF PROOF-LIKE ( PL ) BUSINESS STRIKE KENNEDY HALF DOLLARS PRIOR TO 1970. SOME YEARS SHOW NO PL HALF DOLLARS IN THE CENSUS. THE YEAR 1970 SHOWED AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF PL COINS, ALTHOUGH THESE ARE STILL SCARCE AND HIGHLY SOUGHT BY KENNEDY COLLECTORS. THERE ARE EVEN A HANDFUL OF DEEP MIRROR PROOF-LIKE COINS FROM 1970 , ALTHOUGH NOBODY KNOWS HOW THEY CAME TO BE. THERE ARE ONLY A TOTAL OF 10 OR SO KENNEDY HALF DOLLARS FROM 1964-1970 THAT ARE GRADED BY NGC AS DPL. ALL 10 COINS GRADED AS DPL BY NGC ARE DATED 1970-D, ALTHOUGH IN APPEARANCE THEY RESEMBLE SAN FRANCISCO MINTED PROOF COINS. ALL 10 COINS ARE THOUGHT TO HAVE COME OFF THE SAME OUTRAGEOUSLY POLISHED DIE.
SET GOALS
MY GOAL FOR THIS SET WAS TO SHOW CASE SOME INTERESTING EARLY KENNEDY HALF DOLLARS. CHECK OUT THE 1966, 1968, 1969 AND 1970 BUSINESS STRIKES . I HAVE LEFT SOME COMMENTS CONCERNING THOSE COINS AND WHY I FIND THEM INTERESTING. MAYBE SOMEONE ELSE MIGHT FIND THEM INTERESTING AS WELL. HAVE FUN WITH YOUR COINS.
