Benjamin Franklin was a truly great American because he embodied the ultimate self-made man, transitioning from a humble Boston printer's apprentice to a world-renowned scientist, inventor, and indispensable Founding Father who uniquely signed the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty of Alliance with France, the Treaty of Paris, and the Constitution. His genius bridged the Enlightenment, creating practical innovations—like the lightning rod and bifocals—while fostering civic improvements such as public libraries and volunteer fire departments. As a master diplomat and "First American," Franklin utilized his wit and popularity to secure the essential French alliance that won the Revolutionary War, all while promoting a culture of thrift, industry, and civic duty
I used to see this coin all of the time when I was a paper boy in the late 1970's. There is something very compelling about the classic design and curves of this modern half dollar.
Dr. Ben Franklin deserves this coin.
I'm always looking to upgrade this set with attractively toned, non FBL coins. :-).
