For this Hungarian Third Republic set, I only accept first year examples of each type. This posed very challenging, as the 1992 10 forint, 20 forint, 50 forint, and 100 forint business strikes were only released in mint sets, and only 2,000 sets were produced. Original 1992 mint sets are extremely expensive. Somewhat thankfully, the packaging degrades on those mint sets and removing the coins is the best course of action for protecting the coins.
Almost all types in this set had "BU" collector strikes produced by the Hungarian Mint starting unofficially in 1994, with the 2002 Kossuth 100 forint being the first new type with an official "BU" mint product. Business strikes for the coins in this type set produced after 1998 were only available in mint bags or rolls, making high grade examples difficult to find.
I successfully petitioned NGC to recognize the "BU" strike type for Hungary in 2019, after which any coins from these mint sets would be graded with the PL strike type on slabs to denote the collector strike, however, coins graded prior to that may be erroneously slabbed as MSPL when they are not circulating issues. Generally the BU coins have the look of a glossy proof without any cameo.
