This collection will be put together as a small honor to President Abraham Lincoln who gave his life to free his fellow man from slavery.
The comments will attempt to give a synoptic history of the events mostly 100 years in the past for selected early date coins.
The goal and hope is to assemble the best possible collection of coins available.
Some facts about the 16th President:
He was elected President January 6, 1860. However, it took some months for the election to be verified. His election led to the Civil War.
He was nicknamed, "Honest Abe" by his peers. because of his reputation as an honest lawyer and politician. A far cry from the ilk of politicians we are forced to suffer in today's climate.
The Civil War ended slavery, but Lincoln's primary goal at the beginning was preservation of the Union.
He is in the Wrestling Hall of Fame (not the goofy one). He had approximately 300 matches with only one known defeat.
