Christian Gobrecht was an influential American engraver and engraver-turned-mint official who lived during the 19th century. He is best known for his role as the third Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, serving from 1840 to 1844. Gobrecht played a significant role in designing and overseeing the production of early American coinage, including notable issues like the Gobrecht dollar, which is highly prized by numismatists today. His contributions helped shape the development of U.S. coinage during a formative period. Notable was his design of the long rubbing seated liberty motif.
