Sometime around the summer of 1967 when I was 6 years old my father gave me a Quarter for finding his golf ball while he was out golfing, and I was tagging along. That was the first Quarter I can recall ever seeing. As a young collector in the late 1960's I stumbled across a couple silver Washington quarters in pocket change, and while I had a desire to put together a set of them it was out of my budget. So many coins to collect, and I mostly focus on Classic coinage, so for a complete set of Washington Quarters I opted to go with a set of Proof Washington coinage. I am most interested in the years up to 1964, the Silver/Classic years, still trying to decide on the non-silver issues. Would like to see a set for Washington Proofs 1936-1964.
3/2025 After further contemplation I made the plunge and decided to complete this set of Washington Proof coinage, at least through 1998 the last year of the original design. As of 3/2025 it has been completed, honestly quite a bit more challenging than I would have thought. The Proof dates 1968- 1974 where especially difficult to find with nice cameo in grades of at least PF68. I suspect in part due to far fewer submitted for certification. Beyond the Bi-Centennial year they quality of production seems to have gotten to the point where Ultra Cameo examples had become practically the norm rather than the exception. In addition this effort moved me to decide to also complete the MS years of the Washington Quarter as well up to 1964.
