<==== Vickie says "Recently it has come to our attention that, although there are over 100 collectors having sets in this esteemed category, nobody has much more than 50% completion. We find this to be odd, so we had the royal auditors conduct a study at the end of May 2025, and here is the fascinating result:
‘People seem to concentrate on mainly one part of this set, some favoring the earlier dates, some the latter dates, and some specialties such as shieldback designs. Of the 71 possible coins in this category, fully 68 of them are included in one of the top 10 collections. So if these collections were to merge, the resulting set would be 96% complete. The 3 missing coins would be #1, 7, and 17. However, Mr Gilchrist has an example of #7. So if all collections are taken into account, only #1 and #17 are missing.'
Coin #1 is the famous 1838 Narrow Shield design, of which only two examples have been certified by NGC, and #17 is the relatively recently added obscure variety 1852 Inverted A, of which only a single example is currently in an NGC holder. So the odds of any of us ever acquiring one of these seems very remote, but eventually we have confidence that it will happen.”
