22 coins make up the 1884 Mint Set. Several of the coins are rare and/or expensive. The rarest coin in the set is the 1884 $3 Gold coin with only 146 grading submissions at NGC and PCGS combined. Nearly all survivors are mint state examples. AU or lower grade coins are nearly impossible to find so it is hard to save money by trying to buy a lower grade. 2nd rarest coin is the 1884 Three Cent Copper Nickel coin with 149 grading submissions. Most expensive coin in the set is the 1884-CC $10 Gold Eagle listing at $75,000 for an MS-61 example.
Some of the better coins in my 1884 mint set are:
Fewest (146) grading submissions - 1884 AU-58 $3 Gold Piece
Most Valuable - 1884 AU-58 $3 Gold Piece
Best eye appeal - 1884 MS-64 $1 Gold coin with Deep Prooflike surfaces.
