It takes 27 different coins to fill all the slots in the 1878 Mint Set. The key to the set is the 1878-S Seated Half Dollar. Less than 50 coins are believed to survive and a MS-63 coin has a price guide listing of $160,000. The next two scarcest coins are the 1878-CC $10 gold eagle and the 1878-CC $5 gold half eagle with just over 100 examples known for each date.
