This is one of the most difficult Mint Sets to complete. It takes 29 different coins to complete the set. The 2 most difficult coins to locate would be the 1875 $5.00 half eagle and the 1875 $10 eagle. Only 200 half eagle coins were minted and only about 6 - 8 coins are believed to survive today. Only 100 1875 $10 coins were struck. There have been 17 grading events divided between PCGS and NGC but it is believed that nearly half of them are resubmissions. Probably 8-10 different coins still survive. The two most common coins in the set are the 1875-S $20 gold piece with over 8,900 pieces slabbed and the 1875-S Twenty Cent Piece with over 9,300 pieces slabbed by both PCGS and NGC.
My coins in this Mint Set that merit special mention are:
Fewest (94) grading submissions - 1875 Gold dollar
Most valuable - 1875 Gold Dollar
Best eye appeal - 1875-S Quarter Eagle
