This is a large mint set containing 36 different coins struck from five operating mints. A third of the coins are rare and rarely come up for sale. The rarest coin of the set is the 1857-O $10 Gold Eagle with a pop of 139 coins followed closely by the 1857-D $2.50 Gold Quarter Eagle with a pop of 143 pieces. Oddly, the most expensive coin is the 1857-O $20 Gold Double Eagle which is only the 12th. rarest coin in the set with a pop of 271 pieces but has a price guide listing of $250,000 for a MS-63 piece. The most common coin of the set is the 1857 Flying Eagle Cent which has a population that exceeds 11,000 pieces.
Some of the better coins of mine in the set are:
Fewest (143) grading submissions - 1857-D AU-50 Quarter Eagle
Most valuable - 1857 MS-63 $3 Gold piece
Best eye appeal - 1857 MS-64 Flying Eagle Cent (ex. Bob Simpson collection)
