18 different coins are required to complete the 1847 Mint Set. This is a set that some collectors should be able to complete as there is only one coin, the 1847-O $5 Half eagle, that can be considered a "stopper". NGC and PCGS combined have received a total of 95 grading submissions for this coin. Allowing for resubmissions, there might be 5-6 dozen survivors for this date. The second rarest coin is the 1847-O Quarter Dollar which is rare above the XF-45 grade. About 200 examples of that coin have been slabbed.
