The Jefferson “WAR NICKEL” subset is one of the most popular sets to put together, not to mention one of the most eye appealing. This set is pulled directly from my main collection (38~64) and is the best line up I have to offer. The wartime set is comprised of nickels struck from 1942 to 1945 and coined using the silver alloy composition. This is a fun set to put together due to the fact that the war nickels can be extremely eye appealing and also have the unique ability to tone in some very interesting colors and patterns. The composition of silver, copper, and manganese reacts a little different than the standard alloy nickels and results in beautifully lustrous and well struck specimens. Generally recognized by the large mintmark over Monticello, these nickels are usually easy to pick out in a crowd.
