Over the years I acquired a few pre-1936 proof coins in the course of collecting coins primarily by date and mint. Around 2014 I decided to build a proof type set to the extent it was feasible for me to do so. Considering the rarity, beauty and generally superior strikes of these proof coins, I've wondered why most collectors nowadays prefer coins made for circulation. I'm unlikely ever to acquire any proof coins of types made prior to 1858 or of gold coins, but I do hope to obtain specimens of the Seated, Morgan and Trade dollars. (I have specimens of the Barber quarter and half dollar, but they are dated 1900 and 1913 respectively and not eligible for this set.
