AFTER OVER 120 YEARS THEY WERE FIRST STRUCK, WE CONTINUE TO FIND NEW SPECIMENS FROM DIFFERENT DIES THAT SHED FURTHER INFORMATION, NOT ONLY AS TO THE CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER THEY WERE STRUCK, BUT ALSO GIVE US AN INSIGHT OF THE EFFORTS BY THE MEMBERS OF THE CUBAN REVOLUTIONARY JUNTA IN NEW YORK TO PRODUCE COINS THAT WOULD SERVE A DUAL PURPOSE; TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THE REVOLUTIONARY CAUSE, AND TO BE USED AS LEGAL TENDER IN CUBA WITH THE GUARANTEE THEY WOULD BE REDEEMED BY THE CUBAN GOVERNMENT AT FACE VALUE AFTER CUBA GAINED ITS INDEPENDENCE FROM SPAIN. THIS GUARANTEE WAS INDEED HONORED BY THE NASCENT CUBAN REPUBLIC AFTER 1902.
