I collect Shield nickels by date and now own a specimen of each date. The proof only 1877 and 1878, as well as the 1879 and 1880, which are easier to obtain as proofs than as circulation strikes, are included here, as is an 1873, which, like all proof 1873 Shield nickels, is of the "closed 3" variety. (I have an uncertified 1881, presumably a circulation strike, with Very Fine or so details and areas of corrosion.)
