These twelve coins dated 1870, 1875, 1877, 1878 and 1882-1888 inclusive are part of my complete date collection of copper nickel three cent pieces from 1865 to 1889. They include the proof only dates and certain others for the dates in the 1880s that have become substantially more expensive as purported circulation strikes than as proofs.
Collectors of earlier times regarded proofs as the best of an issue of coins rather than as a separate issue as most consider them today. Many of Eliasberg's Philadelphia issues were proofs. If it was good enough for Eliasberg, it's good enough for me! Moreover, I question whether it can be ascertained whether many of these coins were struck as proofs or for circulation.
For my circulation strike three cent nickels that are certified, see Sandon's Certified Three Cent Nickels under the circulation issues category.
