This competitive set includes all the American Innovation $1 coins with Proof, Reverse Proof and Mint State finishes struck between 2018 and 2032. The proof version features frosted foregrounds and design elements against a high-polished, mirror-like background while the reverse proof coins feature frosted backgrounds and polished design elements. Each year one proof set will be issued containing four coins and four individual reverse proof coins will be released with one coin per folder.
The United States Mint American Innovation $1 Coin Program is a multi-year series to honor innovation and innovators with $1 coins from each State, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Northern Mariana Islands. One of the Nation’s greatest strengths is its entrepreneurial spirit and the remarkable innovation and discovery it unleashes. The American Innovation program honors the spirit of America to celebrate innovation and honor the spirit of America.
The 2018 American Innovation $1 Proof Coin launched the American Innovation $1 Coin Program, which celebrates and honors significant American innovation and pioneering efforts of individuals or groups in each of the 50 States, District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. The 2018 United States Mint American Innovation $1 Proof coin reverse design features George Washington’s signature and the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “AMERICAN INNOVATORS.” The stylized gears represent industry and innovation. The design also includes the inscription “SIGNED FIRST PATENT” under Washington’s signature. Future coins will feature distinctive reverse (tails) designs that pay homage to America’s ingenuity and celebrate the pioneering efforts of individuals or groups from each of the 50 states, District of Columbia, and U.S. territories.
The obverse design features a dramatic representation of the Statue of Liberty in profile with the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “$1.” The design also includes a privy mark of a stylized gear, representing industry and innovation. This common obverse will be used for all coins in this program.
The edge-incused inscriptions includes the year of minting, the San Francisco mint mark, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

Several of the releases were late and released in the next year; a first for the Mint. All proof coins are graded by NGC as Proof 70 or Proof 70 UC. The reverse poof coins are graded Reverse Proof 70. The labels are either the American Innovation label, EARLY RELEASES or First Day of Issue.
Population comments. Only 75,000 of the reverse proof coins will be made of each state and there is no limit on the proof sets. The Delaware Proof 70 coin is difficult to find with only 22.3% grading PF70. The Pennsylvania Proof 70 coin is nearly impossible to find with only 4.5% grading Proof 70. These PF70 are very expensive due to US Mint quality issues and can be found on eBay for $999. The Pennsylvania Proof 69 can be found at reasonable prices.
