Behold the grandeur of my curated collection, audaciously titled ‘...Makes the World Go Round’ aka ‘BDE 20th Century Business Types, No Gold.’ This assemblage, comprised exclusively of my most distinguished NGC-graded coins, is not to be conflated with a pursuit of mere technical perfection, for it is the essence of character and provenance that reign supreme here—not the tyranny of numerical grade.
This noble subset stands as the refined distillation of my magnum opus: the complete 20th-century collection, inclusive of gold. Yet, I must avow that it is the non-gold coinage of the 20th century that truly embodies the quintessence of numismatic artistry. While gold coins, resplendent though they may be, tend to exhibit a tiresome uniformity, the kaleidoscopic splendor of copper, nickel, and silver coinage commands my discriminating eye. Their myriad hues, intricate toning, and luminous textures transform the pursuit of the ideal specimen into an odyssey of aesthetic delight.
Indeed, such magnificence finds its zenith in the ubiquitous icons of circulation—the noble 1c Memorial, the dignified 10c Clad Roosevelt, the stately 5c Jefferson, the venerable 25c Clad Washington, and, of course, the august 1c Lincoln Wheat. Collectively, these paragons account for an astonishing 94% of all circulation strikes spanning the Gilded Century from 1900 to 1999. What follows is an erudite analysis of their rankings and proportional representation, presented with an air of intellectual superiority befitting such a momentous discourse.
