Coins of Portuguese India (Goa) in the name of Carlos I, ruler of Portugal.
Dom Carlos I, known as the Diplomat, the Martyr, and the Oceanographer, among many other names, was the King of Portugal from 1889 until his assassination in 1908.
These are the last coins of issued with the Kings effigy following the 1910 revolution in Portugal which ended the centuries-old monarchy .
These coins were minted in 1901 and 1903 ,in Copper and Silver
MCM In Roman Numerals is 1900 ,so MCM I is 1900 +1 = 1901 & MCM III = 1903
Under the Portuguese / British India coinage, 1 Rupee was equal to 16 tanga , therefore
1⁄12 Tanga = 1⁄12 Anna
1⁄8 Tanga = 1⁄2 Pice
1⁄4 Tanga = 1⁄4 Anna or 1 PIce
1⁄2 Tanga = 1⁄2 Anna or 1 Pie
