The reason I decided on 1903 for the year to assembly an early 20th century proof set was mainly the Morgan dollar; it was the first Morgan in my type set, replaced a few years ago by an 1883 Morgan. The plan was to sell the 1903 when I found the second Morgan, yeah that was the plan. Turned out there was just one problem with that plan… The Morgan is just too nice of coin to part with. So what was I to do? Build another proof set starting with my 1903 dollar. I’m a real softy for pre-1915 proof coins so it was an easy decision.
