This is the set for the ¼ de real from the Central American Republic. These coins were minted in Guatemala exclusively between 1824 and 1851 except for an 1845 issue from Costa Rica. The set includes:
G N/A
G NGC MS66. Delightful little Gem coin with perfect Sun’s facial features. At the time of the purchase (September 2016) NGC top pop. They have graded 10 coins, 1@VF, 1@45, 1@58, 1@63, 2@64, 1@65, and 3@66. From the sale’s catalogue: “Central American Republic 1/4 Real 1826-G MS66 NGC, KM1. A shimmering example of this better early date”.
G RARE N/A
G NGC MS63. Delightful uncirculated coin from the Central American Republic. Despite the grade bestowed upon it, the features of the face of the Sun are visible. At the time of purchase (November 2019) there are 18 coins graded between both services, therefore not the most common "quartilla" by any means, for example the 1837G has 150 graded coins at NGC alone). PCGS has graded 5 coins: 1@53, 1@63, 1@64, and 2@65. As far as NGC is concerned, they have graded 13: 2@VG, 1@F, 1@40, 1@58, 1@62, 4@63, 2@64, and 1@65.
G RARE N/A
G NGC MS68. Housed in an old generation NGC holder. This is the definition of perfection. This coin is as minted 120 years ago. Nothing else can be said from this delightful little Gem. . NGC has (as of December 2017) 144 graded coins, including 32@MS67, and 2@MS68 hence TOP POP. From the sale’s catalogue: Central American Republic 1/4 Real 1837-G MS68 NGC, Guatemala City mint, KM1. An always gorgeous tiny type, this superb example--tied for the finest certified by NGC--in addition to having every detail crisp and fully-struck, has taken on a russet apricot colour to the fields. From the Feeling Good Collection
G RARE N/A
/30G NGC MS67+. It is very hard to ask for a finer coin. This 1/4 real is MS67+. The overdate is clearly visible. Due to the fact that a small hoard of 1/4 de real was discovered few years ago, the 1840/30 and 1837 are not that rare, NGC having graded 133 coins total (including 1 “details”). In fact there are 29 coins graded MS67 by NGC at the time of purchase (April 2018), this one at 67+ and 1 at 68 but none higher. Despite its small size, the face of the Sun is clearly seen, my favourite characteristic of the CAR coins.
G RARE. Raw for now. Very rare issue. Perhaps one of the most elusive silver coins from the Central American Republic. As of today, none graded by NGC (that will change soon!). From the sale’s catalogue: “Guatemala (Central American Republic), 1/4 real, 1841G, very rare. KM-1. 0.55 gram. VG, no major issues, key date and listed as rare without values in KM”.
/29G PCGS MS67 (as is PCGS is not officially included in the competitive set). Amazing little Gem! Hard to find a better coin. Sharp strike and great colour! NGC has graded only 3 for the year, highest only MS66. PCGS has graded 5, 2@65, 2@66, and 1@67. Therefore, (as of September 2016), this is the highest coin graded for the year by either NGC or PCGS. From the sale's catalogue: "Central American Republic 1/4 Real 1842/29-G MS67 PCGS, KM1. A pristine coin with gorgeous toning".
/37G NGC MS67. Incredible little Gem! NGC Top Pop. The Sun's face details are very clear, as well as the over date. At the time of purchase (November 2016) NGC has graded 13 coins: 2@58, 2@63, 1@64, 2@65, 4@66, and 2@67.
G NGC MS66. Delightful little Gem. At the time of purchase (September 2016) there were 9 graded coins, including 1@AU58, 1@MS64, 1@MS65, 4@MS66 and 2@MS67. From the sale's catalogue: "Central American Republic 1/4 Real 1843-G MS66 NGC, KM1. A superlative example of the type with unblemished surfaces." The coin was auctioned before: Heritage Weekly World and Ancient Coin Auction #231511 lot 62207 (March 12, 2015).
G NGC MS65. Delightful little Gem coin. At the time of purchase (September 2016) NGC has certified 31 coins: 1@VF, 1@63, 5@64, 11@65, 9@66, and 4@67. From the sale's catalogue: "WORLD COINS FROM VARIOUS PROPERTIES WORLD COINS, Central American Republic, Quarter-Réal (sic), 1844g (KM. 1). About as struck Slabbed in NGC holder, graded MS 65".
CR NGC MS62. Delightful little uncirculated coin. With eleven specimens graded by NGC at the time of purchase (May 2017) is not the most elusive ¼ real from the C.A.R., but certainly is not a common one. There is only one finer at MS63. Strike on reverse a bit weak, but still a charming piece. As of this time Heritage has never offered an uncirculated piece. The sun’s face (my favourite characteristic of these coins) is not as clear as in other Gem quartillas, but still is very good. From the sale’s catalogue: “Costa Rica, Central American Republic, 1/4 real, 1845-CR, encapsulated NGC MS 62. KM-23. Nicely toned over good luster, choice and fully detailed sun-over-mountains, lamination flaw below tree on other side, parts of rims crude (as made), tied for second finest known in NGC census. NGC #4438968-008”.
G N/A
G NGC MS66. Coin alignment: Delightful little Gem. NGC Top Pop (October 2016). Only six coins graded: 1@G, 1@45, 1@58, 1@63, 1@65, and 1@66.The 1846G ¼ real exist in both with coin and medal alignment. This coin has a coin alignment. From the sale’s catalogue: “Central American Republic 1/4 Real 1846-G MS66 NGC, Nueva Guatemala mint, KM1. A bright white coin with sparkling original luster”.
