SPECIAL NOTE: Both the Susan B. Anthony Dollar and the Kennedy Half Dollar are made up of the same alloy; “Outer Layers of 75% Copper, 25% Nickel, bonded to inner core of Pure Copper”. But there is one big significant difference, and that is, the two outer layers of the SBA Dollar make up one-half of the total thickness with the copper core making up the other half of the total thickness of the SBA dollar, where as the two outer layers of the Kennedy Half Dollar make up only one-third of the total thickness with the copper core making two-thirds of the total thickness of the Kennedy Coin. This was done to prevent someone resizing the Kennedy Half Dollars to the size of the Susan B. Anthony Dollars for use in vending machines. The vending machines have the capability of detecting this difference.
