1894 the year of my grandfather’s birth saw the Country in an economic depression and as a result many coin issues saw smaller mintages. While there are none that are stoppers among the business strikes at least, several are challenging in higher grades. The 1894 O Dime is at least a semi-Key in the Barber Dime series, the 1894 Morgan Dollar with a mintage of just 110,000 is a key date and the second lowest circulation strike mintage in the Morgan series. Among the Gold coins, the 1894 Quarter Eagle has miniscule mintage of just 4,000, the 1894 O Half Eagle is quite challenging with a smallish mintage of just 16,600, the 1894 S Half Eagle is also tough, and finally the 1894 S Eagle is quite challenging with a mintage of just 25,000, considered underrated by quite a few that I have spoken with. In homage to my grandfather, it has been a pleasure to put this set together with as strong of representative examples as my budget would allow.
