This is a date set version of my larger Browning variety set of small capped bust quarters (1831-1838). My set consists of AU coins with a focus on of eye appeal and rare die states.
There are two special reverses in this series, the O/F reverse used on later 1833-dated issues and early 1834-dated issues. This was a deliberate type change to modify the shield on the eagle to use 2 lines per stripe in the shield instead of 3, as this change had been done for other smaller capped bust types. This change was not liked for the quarter, and it was not continued after this one die was produced. The other special reverse is from the proof reverse die prepared for the King of Siam and other presentation sets in 1834. This die was later pressed into use for some 1834-dated and 1835-dated business strikes.
I have included an example of the O/F reverse in the 1834 slot, and an example of the proof reverse in the 1835 slot. Both of these reverses have very distinct looking eagles compared to the design on the other reverses. There are two other major reverse types, the other two being the 1831 small letters reverse and the standard large letters reverse in use for all other issues aside from the small letters, O/F, and proof reverses.
