This Proof Registry Set is no easy feat to complete. The goal was finally achieved after more than 13 years of relentless searching, culminating in the grading of the very first perfect Silver Libertad 1/2 oz Proof PF70 1997 Ultra Cameo on February 26, 2025. The mintage numbers are, to put it mildly, scarce. For example, in 1997, only 800 were minted, in 1999 a mere 600, and in 2000 just 700. While the published mintage for the iconic 1998 coin is listed as 2,500, I am certain that, like the other proof fractionals from 1998, only about 300 actually ever saw the light of day.
As Registry Sets for Libertads in both gold and silver are nearly impossible to achieve solely in Top Pops, I will, of course, seize any opportunity to improve the series. After all, who wouldn’t want to add just a touch more perfection to an already legendary collection? Even if it means giving myself another 13-year challenge! 😉
